About our telehealth services
True Path Functional Medicine offers telehealth visits — secure, real-time video consultations — alongside in-person visits in St. Louis, MO. Telehealth lets you meet with Lauren Skyles, FNP-C, IFMCP from the privacy of your own home or office.
Where we are licensed
Telehealth services are available only to patients physically located in a state where Lauren is currently licensed at the time of the visit. As of the date above, telehealth services are available in:
- Missouri
- Illinois
If you travel outside of those states or relocate, please let us know — we may not be able to continue care via telehealth from your new location.
What to expect during a telehealth visit
Telehealth visits are conducted via Healthie, a secure, HIPAA-compliant patient portal and video platform. Before your visit you will receive a unique meeting link by email. You will need:
- A reliable internet connection
- A device with a camera and microphone (computer, tablet, or smartphone)
- A private, well-lit space where you can speak freely
- If applicable, a way to take and share home measurements (blood pressure, weight, etc.)
Benefits and limitations of telehealth
Telehealth offers most of the same benefits as in-person care: detailed history-taking, lab review, treatment planning, prescription management, supplement guidance, and ongoing follow-up. It also offers convenience, time savings, and access for patients who would otherwise have difficulty traveling.
Telehealth has limitations. Some aspects of a physical exam are not possible via video. There may be situations in which Lauren determines an in-person visit, an in-person referral, or different testing is required for safe and appropriate care. If that is the case, we will discuss next steps with you and refer you when needed.
Privacy and security
We use Healthie, a telehealth platform designed to comply with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Your visit will not be recorded, and your protected health information will be handled in accordance with our HIPAA Notice of Privacy Practices.
Despite reasonable safeguards, no electronic communication is ever 100% secure. Risks include the small possibility of unauthorized interception, technical failure that interrupts the visit, or others overhearing the conversation if you are in a non-private location.
Emergencies
Telehealth is not for medical emergencies. If you believe you are experiencing a medical emergency, hang up and call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room immediately. At the start of every telehealth visit we will confirm your physical location and an emergency contact in case the visit is interrupted or urgent local intervention is needed.
Cost and insurance
Telehealth visits are billed at the same rate as in-person visits. As a direct-pay practice, payment is required at the time of service. We do not bill insurance. A superbill is available on request that you may submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement; reimbursement is not guaranteed.
Your consent
Before your first telehealth visit, you will be asked to read and sign a separate Informed Consent for Telehealth Services form acknowledging that you understand the benefits, limitations, and risks of telehealth and consent to receive care this way. You may withdraw consent and switch to in-person care at any time, subject to availability and Lauren's licensure in your state.
Care for minors
For patients under 18, a parent or legal guardian must be present at the start of the visit, must consent to telehealth care, and must remain reachable for the duration of the visit.
